The Last Lamentation | Supernova

After the project’s exhibition at MAN in Nuoro, Valentina Medda’s The Last Lamentation will be premiered as a performance on April 20 during Supernova, a performing arts project in Rimini, curated by Motus, Santarcangelo dei Teatri and the Municipality of Rimini.

The sea, the crossroads of present-day diasporas, here becomes embodied through a choral action inspired by the ancient tradition of the prefiches, which connects the lament of Sardinia-the artist’s birthplace-with that of neighboring countries. Conceived as a ritual in which to participate, The Last Lamentation-which features 12 nonprofessional performers involved in a preparatory workshop-is a shared mourning that recounts the tragedy of the sea and extends like an echo to the entire Mediterranean basin. A funeral ritual for the Mediterranean, conceived by the artist as a place of waiting, suspension and passing away.
